Set against the richly atmospheric backdrop of a post-Revolutionary Hudson Valley village, Irving's tale weaves together folklore, comedy, and spine-tingling dread in a way that feels distinctly, enduringly American. This imaginative adaptation stays true to the enchanting world that Irving conjures in this beloved American gothic tale, while adding a lyrical, almost musical quality that further heightens the humor, deepens the magic, and sharpens the terror — breathing new life into a story that has captivated readers for over two centuries.
